Bihar Flood Relief - Doctors For You

The most devastating calamity in Bihar. One of the biggest Flood in the history of India.
  • 9000 villages in 15 districts has been affected.
  • 35 Lacs people have lost their home.
  • 1 Crore 26 lakh affected.
The condition would worsen as the flood water recedes and there would be threat of an epidemic and water-borne disease.
Help – Bihar Flood Victims: An appeal of Doctors For You

Please help As a Medico Volunteer (Students/Interns/graduates of MBBS/BDS/PG/BAMS/BHMS/Nursing Staff/Nursing Student/UG) – To be located in Flood Affected Region in Bihar.
    • To provide Preventive Curative & Rehabilitative services to the flood affected areas in Bihar
    • To Organise Health Camps in the 6 worst affected ...Madhepura,Supaul,Purnia,Katihar,Saharsha & Araria
    • To Provide clean drinking water.
    • To spread the immunization and vaccination in the flood affected areas in Bihar.
  • As a volunteer - Non-Medicos (Any one above the age of 18 years )
    • To be located in Flood Affected Regions in Bihar
    • To assist the NGOs working in the flood affected region
    • To manage and execute the Flood Programs of Doctors for You on the ground
    • To provide a smoother communication between the NGOs and minimize the waste of relief resources.

Phase I: Immediate Action
Collected five truckloads of relief material including food, clothing and Utensils and dispatched the same through Indian Railways to Purnia and Khagaria District. This material was distributed through Art of Living, Bihar, to about 10,000 flood victims families situated in 25 villages of Saharsa , Purnia & Madhepura districts in Bihar.
Medicines worth more than 10 lacs (donated by Cipla, PDP Parentral Drug (india) limited, Elder pharma, Mr & Mrs. Khatri, Dr Arun singh, Dr Anil Luniya, Mr Atul Shah) were sent by air cargo (courtesy: Jetlite airways) to Patna. These medicines are being used for relief camps at Purnia run by Art of Living, Supoul run by Indian Army & saharsa run by Govt.
Various individuals and organizations have donated about Rs. 2 lakhs to Doctors for You through various channels. These funds would be used for procurement of medicines as well as supporting the logistic arrangement of Medical and Non Medical volunteers.

Phase II: Relief Operations
In this phase Doctors for you will be concentrating on providing medicos and medicines to various organizations engaged in setting up relief camp in Kahgaria district.
Dr. Robert Montana, US trained Emergency Medicine Practitioner with experience of relief operations worldwide, is helping Doctors for you in planning of this phase. Presently he is in Khagaria district accessing the requirement.
Doctors for you will be sending a team of 50 doctors to Khagaria district starting from this week (15th September). These doctors will have their base camp at Maheshkhut & Beldaur (Zero mile) near mansi station and will work with the relief camps in surrounding districts (Saharsa,Supoul,Madhepura & Purnia ).
We will be mobilizing additional medicine worth 25 lacs which would be dispensed through these camps.
We will be also advising other relief camps/agencies on the safe disposal of animal carcass (major source of epidemic in post disaster situations) and on the provisions of safe drinking water.
We have also taken approval from various authorities of Medical Associations to send the interns to Bihar.

Phase III: Long term Rehabilitation
We will be focusing on providing the medicos and medicine for the treatment of the victims as well as arrange for psychological therapeutic sessions to help people overcome the POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER .
